While unfortunately it took me 50 years to Learn these 10 basic truths to have a great life, maybe someone else will learn earlier. True, I didn't practice them all before I learned them, I do now. To all those I knew before, sorry it took me so long to learn.

  1. If you get married stay married. So many reasons for this. The first is that your wedding vows state that you intend too. Another reason is that you will be wealthier. Not richer perhaps, but wealthier. A house I purchased in 1983 for $48,500 is now in 2010 worth $124,000.00. Not to mention what splitting your net worth in half with each divorce does to your portfolio.
  2. Pray each night before you go to bed. I won't get into a religious debate here. My choice is to believe in one God and pray to Him each evening. Praise for the good things that happened and pray for things that need to become better. I always sleep more peaceful after praying.
  3. Do unto other's as you would have them do to you. Yep, this is the Golden Rule. I have tried to practice it most of my life. From always opening doors for someone or stopping on a cold snowy night and changing a tire for a stranded motorist. Always help one another out.Use whatever God given ability or talent you have to help someone. They will hopefully use their ability/talent even if different to help someone else.
  4. Save yourself for the one you marry. You would think this goes without saying. Sadly it goes, in these days, without practice. Making Love is a special bond between two, making yourselves as one. My heart is heaviest here for my own personal reasons. Also, if we only made love to who we were married, everyone would know who their biological parents were. While we may truly love our Dad's that we know, it is only fair it seems that we would each know our biological dad. (Please, no hate mail. I am not talking about incest or rape here)
  5. Do something for someone else before you do for yourself. It seems that when a catastrophic event happens, 9-11, Katrina, Haiti, we are able to give of ourselves to something/someone else. This is how is should be everyday. Always look for someone that you can help even if just a little or with one thing. You will get your own reward.
  6. Do not let foolish people guide your life. You may be the foolish one here. I have made many mistakes, but have also let others guide me which turned out to be just as foolish as me. Seek council from 2, 3, or more of people you admire and are successful in the area you are about to make a decision. Whether it be financial, spiritual, or morally, someone else has made the mistakes before and can offer great council.
  7. Find yourself and your place in Life and make everything you do pertinent to that goal. I thought I was being smart when given the opportunity to ask a Pastor any question. Mine would be what is the Meaning of Life? Thinking this question would have a long explanation, I was wrong. His answer was simple, to Worship God. I do believe this is the primary reason for our Life. I also believe that with all of our own special talents, we are here to do our part on Earth while we are here. I have known for a long time, my Heart lies in helping seniors stay safe in their homes as long as possible and also to have a complex where both abused single mothers with children can be nurtured and also a place for a couples retreat where marriages can be reclaimed. This website and everything I do is so one day I will be successful in all.
  8. Each day can be a new start!I have learned that no matter what your life yesterday was like, It can be totally different 24 hours later. The start of a new day seems to be 90% attitude. Get up, start the day like it will be different. And if tonight, it seems the same as yesterday, get up tomorrow striving to change it. It will one day be different and better.
  9. Put $10.00 in the bank each week for your grandchildren from the day they are born. The reason I skip to grandchildren is that most of us are in a lot better shape by the time we have grandchildren to be able to do this. And if you start now and teach you kids to do the same, each generation thereafter will benefit. Being able to see how interest works teaches a valuable lesson. At $10.00 a week, the last week before your Grandchild turns 18 he/she has approximately $15,000+ dollars in the bank. At 5% interest, you have invested $9,359.00 and received $5,272.00 in interest.
  10. Cherry Kool-AidTM even 50 years later ALWAYS tastes good. Make a pitcher, it proves itself! Too much sugar but still my favorite drink.
